Sidney joined Warwick Asset Management in November 2013, and with the acquisition of Cadiz in May 2018, was appointed Senior Fixed Income Portfolio Manager – SA, at Cadiz Asset Management. He holds a B.Sc degree from The University of Cape Town, Diplomas in IS Project Management, Financial Management, and has completed modules in the Capital Markets (Securities Institute-London). Sidney also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning from the University of Free State.

After graduating Paul spent five years at Eskom in the engineering field and then moved into the financial services industry, firstly working for Standard Corporate and Merchant Bank’s interest rate production division for two years and then joining the asset management industry in 1999. Luke is head of Fundamental Equity Client Portfolio Management in EMEA for Goldman Sachs Asset Management (GSAM). Melanie joined Laurium in December 2020 as a portfolio manager. Melanie was a founding member of Tantalum Capital where for 15 years she was Head of Fixed Interest and the portfolio manager for the fixed income portfolios as well as contributing to the multi-asset portfolios. From 2002 to 2005 Melanie was at Coronation Fund Managers where she was head of the fixed interest team, managing fixed interest institutional and retail portfolios as well as the Strategic Income Fund. Co-chief Investment Officer
Co-chief Investment Officer of NS Partners, has been managing money in East Asia and the broader emerging markets for over 26 years. He began his career at Royal Insurance Asset Management as an Asian Fund Manager on the Far East team where he soon became responsible for a variety of Far East client portfolios. Ian joined what is now NS Partners in 1996. He assumed responsibility for all Asian equity investments shortly thereafter and took on Emerging Markets in late 1998. Passionate about emerging market equities, Ian is an enthusiastic advocate of the subjects that define the team’s investment process: true economic profitability of companies driving shareholder returns; liquidity impacts on asset prices; and behavioural finance in capital markets – and how these factors interact.

Duane is a portfolio manager in Ninety One’s Quality team and heads the South African Quality business. He is a co-portfolio manager of the Cautious Managed Fund. As the head of South African Quality research, he leads the research agenda for the South African-focused Quality analysts, and is also responsible for analysing South African stocks. As part of the broader global Quality team, he researches global stocks.
Prior to joining the firm he was Head of SA Equities at Coronation Fund Managers. Jon is an engineer by training with a Master’s Degree in Environmental Science, and has over 24 years of professional experience in the field of sustainability research and engagement. For the past 10 years he has lead the Responsible Investment program at Old Mutual. He has worked extensively across a range of global industrial sectors supporting organisations with strategic social, environmental and sustainability related issues. He has undertaken work assignment in several African and European countries as well in China, Russia and the USA. Jon was involved in the drafting of South African Code for Responsible Investment and currently serves on the UN PRI global reporting and assessment committee. Jon is an advisor to the University of Cape Town Panel for Responsible Investment and contributes to the work of the South African National Advisory Body for Impact investing. Philip is a multiple-award winning fund manager with over 20 years’ experience in global asset allocation and fixed income. He is a key member of PortfolioMetrix’s global investment committee and manages Fixed Income and Multi-asset funds, including the PortfolioMetrix BCI Dynamic Income Fund.
He began his career at Investec in 1999, where he worked for 9 years in asset management, wealth advisory and as a bond and interest rate trader. From 2008 to 2014 Philip worked at Absa Wealth in the role of Chief Investment Officer. Prior to joining PortfolioMetrix he was the Chief Investment Officer at Sasfin Asset Managers where he was responsible for the management over R15 billion in multi-asset and income portfolios. During his tenure he was the fund manager of the flagship Flexible Income and Balanced funds, which won a Morningstar award and 4 Raging Bull awards.

Leonard joined Prudential in October 2020 as an equity portfolio manager and member of Prudential’s Asset Allocation Committee. In January 2021 he was appointed as the joint-fund manager of the Prudential SA Equity, Balanced, Inflation Plus and Target Income Funds, as well as Prudential’s House-View Equity and Select Equity portfolios and Prudential’s multi-asset institutional mandates.
With 14 years of industry experience, Leonard spent the first three years of his career as an actuarial analyst at Liberty Life, before joining Allan Gray as an equity analyst in 2007. During his investment career he has covered a wide variety of companies and sectors. In 2014, he started managing a portion of the Allan Gray Equity and Balanced Funds, and from 2015 a portion of the Allan Gray Stable Fund (across all asset classes) as well as all of Allan Gray’s legacy segregated private client equity portfolios.

Garreth E. Elston

Garreth Elston is the Chief Investment Officer of Reitway Global’s suite of global listed property funds. He is an investment management professional with over twenty years of international capital markets’ experience in South Africa, North America, the United Kingdom and Europe.
Mr. Elston has a deep passion for real estate and has significant experience in listed and unlisted real estate investments, property development and real estate private equity.
Garreth has always been actively involved in the broader South African business community. He currently serves on the board of the Investment Analysts Society (IAS), is a member of the Institute of Directors, and he previously served as the Chair of the Corporate Finance and Corporate Presentations committees of the CFA Society Toronto; as the Chairman of the Investment Analysts Society of Southern Africa; and was the Southern African representative on the International Council of Investment Associations.
Garreth is a frequent print and radio commentator on the South Africa real estate sector.
Educationally, Mr. Elston holds an MBA from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto, an MA in International Relations, and a BCom in Banking Management. Fungai started his investment career in 2001. He worked for Fleming Asset Management as an intern, and later as an equity trader. Fungai later moved to African Banking Corp Asset Management in Zimbabwe assuming the role of senior portfolio manager. He then joined Imara Asset Management in 2005 as chief investment officer, where he was responsible for the overall investment function of the business. He worked for African Alliance from 2007 where he was responsible for the management of the West African assets of the Africa Fund. Fungai joined RMB Asset Management in 2008 as the Africa investment specialist and managed the group’s Africa funds for 6 years, building an impressive performance track record. He started Rudiarius Capital Management in February 2014.

Vanessa van Vuuren

Vanessa joined Sanlam Investments in March 2007. At Sanlam Investments, Vanessa’s role is as a portfolio manager and an equity analyst, where she is responsible for cross-sector small and mid-cap equity research. From a portfolio management perspective, Vanessa manages the Small Cap Institutional Funds as well as the SIM Small Cap Unit Trust.
In 2003, Vanessa began her career in investments at Oasis Asset Management as an equity analyst, primarily focusing on researching industrial stocks and the small cap sector. Prior to joining Sanlam Investments, Vanessa worked for a year in the Cape Town offices of the Dutch private bank Insinger de Beaufort conducting equity research, as well as managing high net worth South African equity portfolios.

With 30 years investment management experience, Arno has a deep institutional knowledge and network in South Africa’s financial markets. He has managed funds and portfolio management teams across a full range of mandates, from fixed income to global multi-asset funds, at some of the largest asset managers in the country. With a strong entrepreneurial mindset, he was founder and CIO of Atlantic Asset Management in 2007, providing a growth platform from which a range of funds and solutions were launched, before they were acquired by the FirstRand Group. Most recently, he served as Global Investment Strategist at Ashburton Investments, chairing the Global Macro Forum and with day-to-day responsibility of portfolio management of their Global Multi-Asset Fund range. He has an Honours degree in Mathematical Statistics and is a CFA charterholder. Outside of financial markets he also serves on the board of advisors in the biotechnology space.

Nico Katzke was appointed as Head of Portfolio Solutions at Satrix in October 2020. Nico Katzke joined Satrix from Prescient Securities where he was a senior quant and head of the Beta Labs research unit. He has held roles at Fairtree Capital, the Bureau for Economic Research and has been a statistical consultant to the South African Reserve Bank and other public and private institutions for several years. He has extensive quantitative, research and financial modelling experience, with a focus on factor-based research and portfolio optimization strategies.
Nico has published a number of academic papers and lectures Master’s level courses in data science and quantitative finance part-time at the University of Stellenbosch. He was awarded first place for risk management in the 2020 Financial Mail rankings and achieved second place in the quantitative analyst category.
Nico has a BCom Honours in Economics & Mathematical Statistics and Masters in Economics (Cum Laude) from the University of Stellenbosch and University of Tuebingen, Germany. He is currently studying towards a PhD in Quantitative Finance at the Actuarial Department at UCT.

Evan is a co-founder and executive director of Sesfikile Capital. He holds a BCom Hons (Financial Management) degree from the University of Johannesburg and Chartered Financial Analyst (“CFA”) designation. Evan started his career at Stanlib where he started out in the Wealth division representing teams such as Structured and Alternative Investments as well as Product Development. He soon moved on to Asset management as an analyst primarily focused on listed property; and then took on the role as co-Head of the Listed Property Franchise. During his tenure at Stanlib, the team grew the franchise to being the largest listed property manager in South Africa and achieved several number 1 performance rankings across 3 and 5 year investment periods.

Prior to joining Visio Jonathan was head of Fixed Interest at Granate Asset Management from December 2015 to June 2019. He also served as the Head of the Fixed Interest team at Cadiz Asset Management from 2006 to 2015 where he managed the Unconstrained, House View and Inflation-Linked Bond funds. Jonathan has 11 years of sell-side experience having worked as a Fixed Interest Strategist at HSBC from 1995 to 2003 and then at RMB from 2003 to 2006.

Tony has over 30 years investment experience and was previously the chief investment officer of Syfrets Managed Assets and Nedcor Investment Bank Asset Management (NIBAM). Tony’s experience as an equity portfolio manager dates back to 1988 when he was charged with the responsibility of managing the Southern Life Staff pension fund. From these beginnings his interest in and management of equity portfolios has continued to the present. Tony has spent many years covering the broad range of sectors on the JSE, firstly as a junior analyst (1987 – 89) and then as a Senior Analyst / portfolio manager (1989 – 2000). Tony assumed responsibility for the target return funds at Vunani FM during October 2008 and has evolved the equity selection process to culminate in a standalone equity mandate as from June 2011.
Tony was instrumental in developing the “regime-based asset allocation approach” used in the multi asset funds as well as in initiating and managing the global equity mandate. Tony has been responsible for Vunani’s global capability since its inception in 2013. In this period Tony received six Raging Bull Awards for best in class.
Catherine L. Matthews
Catherine Matthews is Western Asset’s Global Product Specialist and has more than 31 years of investment management experience. Ms. Matthews was a member of the investment team that established Western Asset’s first international office in London in 1996, working previously for Lehman Brothers Global Asset Management.
Ms. Matthews is an alumna of London Business School.
