After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant Shane began his investment career at Liberty Asset Management in 1995 as an Investment Analyst. He was later appointed Senior Fund Manager, responsible for managing a unit trust fund, third party pension funds and eventually the life fund of the Liberty Group. Following this, Shane spent three years as a Director of Corporate Finance at UBS Warburg before moving to Peregrine Capital as a Director. After seven years at Peregrine Capital he started All Weather Capital and has been at the company since 2014 and built up an AUM of over R10bil.

Sidney Mckinnon

Sidney joined Warwick Asset Management in November 2013, and with the acquisition of Cadiz in May 2018, was appointed Senior Fixed Income Portfolio Manager – SA, at Cadiz Asset Management. He holds a B.Sc degree from The University of Cape Town, Diplomas in IS Project Management, Financial Management, and has completed modules in the Capital Markets (Securities Institute-London). Sidney also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning from the University of Free State.
Sidney started his career as an IT specialist at Southern Life before moving into Asset Management, operating mainly as a quantitative analyst across both equity and fixed interest markets. He worked as a fixed interest specialist and portfolio manager at Nedcor Investment Bank and Abvest Associates, before joining Trident Capital. Here his duties included specialist fixed interest portfolio management and the development and management of Real Return and Targeted Return products.
Before joining Cadiz, Sidney was at Lion of Africa, as their senior portfolio manager, being responsible for setting up the functionality of the asset manager within the group.

He joined the company in 1994 and was appointed Joint Head of UK / European Equity teams in 1999 and became Head of Managed Funds in 2003.
Alex started his career at Hambros Bank’s 1 Unit Trust Division, which was acquired by Allied Dunbar 2 in 1981 and subsequently became part of Threadneedle Asset Management Limited in 1994. He managed UK equity portfolios for more than 20 years. He has a degree in Geography from Oxford University.

Chantelle Baptiste joined Fairtree on 1 January 2017 and is the Senior Analyst of the equity team, responsible for the management of the Fairtree Equity Prescient Fund. She achieved her Honours in Management Accounting at Stellenbosch University. After graduating she joined Deloitte in Johannesburg where she completed her articles and during this period she completed her studies through CIMA being awarded a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) designation. She joined Barclays Africa and worked in finance for four years and then moved internally into the Barclays Africa Equity Research team where she joined the Financials team. She was a sell side analysts for five years covering South African Banks and General Financials and in 2016 was rated #2 by the Financial Mail Ranking The Analyst in General Financials and #6 in SA banks.
Louis Antelme

Louis began his career in fixed income at Standard Merchant Bank in 1990, which subsequently became Standard Corporate and Merchant Bank, and worked there in a proprietary and derivative trading role for 9 years. Subsequently he has been employed in fixed income proprietary trading roles at both HSBC and Brait Merchant Bank and as derivative broker at Tullett and Tokyo South Africa. Louis joined RMB Asset Management in 2008, which subsequently became Momentum Alternative Investments, as fixed income and credit portfolio manager. In 2013 Louis joined Fairtree as part of the fixed income team.

Greville Ward has worked for 25 years in European Equity sales, first in London for Laurie Milbank and then Savory Milln (with Julian Robins) before moving to New York in 1988 to work for BZW. In 1992 he joined Robert Fleming as Head of European and Eastern European Sales where he worked for 5 years. He subsequently joined Bankers Trust until their takeover by Deutsche Bank in 1999 following which he started the US operations of Collins Stewart with Julian Robins working again with Terry Smith. Since leaving Collins Stewart in 2007 and before joining Fundsmith, Greville worked for a London based Intelligence company.

Tim is a senior researcher on the Quantitative Investment Strategies team of Goldman Sachs Asset Management, focusing on the discovery and refinement of ESG signals for inclusion in the group’s equity strategies. He joined Goldman Sachs Asset Management in October 2019 as an Executive Director. Previously, Tim worked at Arabesque, where he oversaw ESG research and the creation of the S-Ray® sustainability ratings platform. Rajiv Jain

Rajiv is the Chairman and Chief Investment Officer of GQG Partners and also serves as the lead portfolio manager for all GQG Partners strategies. He commenced investment operations at GQG Partners in June 2016 and has over 25 years of investment experience. Previously, Rajiv served as a Co-Chief Executive Officer (from July 2014) and Chief Investment Officer and Head of Equities (from February 2002) at Vontobel Asset Management. He was the sole portfolio manager of the International
Equities strategy (since 2002) and Emerging Markets Equities strategy (since 1997), and the lead portfolio manager for the Global Equities strategy (since 2002). Rajiv helped build the business from less than US$400 million under management to just under US$50 billion in 2016. He joined Vontobel Asset Management as a co-portfolio manager of Emerging Markets Equities and International Equities in November 1994. Prior to that, he was an International Equity Analyst at Swiss Bank Corporation. Rajiv earned an MBA in Finance and International Business from the University of Miami. He also has a master’s degree from the University of Ajmer and an undergraduate degree in accounting with honors.
Bronwyn Blood

Prior to joining Granate in December 2015, Bronwyn was the Portfolio Manager of the Flexible Fixed Interest funds and the flagship Absolute Yield Fund at Cadiz Asset Management. She took over the management of the Flexible Fixed Interest funds when Cadiz bought African Harvest in 2006 and managed the Absolute Yield Fund from 2007.

Barry Shamley is the lead fund manager of the Investec Wealth & Investment BCI Dynamic Equity Fund and the Investec Global Sustainable Equity Fund. He is also a member of the Investec South African Asset Allocation Committee and Investec Group Executive ESG committee. He is deeply and passionately involved in driving the integration of ESG into the broader global Investec investment process.

Melanie Stockigt

Melanie joined Laurium in December 2020 as a portfolio manager. Melanie was a founding member of Tantalum Capital where for 15 years she was Head of Fixed Interest and the portfolio manager for the fixed income portfolios as well as contributing to the multi-asset portfolios. From 2002 to 2005 Melanie was at Coronation Fund Managers where she was head of the fixed interest team, managing fixed interest institutional and retail portfolios as well as the Strategic Income Fund. Melanie started her career in 1997 at Standard Corporate & Merchant Bank. Initially, she focused on interest rate and liquidity management before she moved to the Treasury Sales and Structuring Desk where she gained significant experience in structuring and marketing fixed income, credit and securitised products to institutional investors.
James Bullock

James Bullock joined Lindsell Train in October 2010 and is joint Portfolio Manager for Lindsell Train’s Global Equity portfolios as well as the Portfolio Manager for the North American Equity Fund. He has a Masters degree in Physics from the University of Oxford and a doctorate in Biomechanics from the University of Cambridge. He passed the Investment Management Certificate in 2012 and was promoted to Portfolio Manager in April 2015.
Sandile Malinga

Sandile joined M&G Investments in 2013 as a member of the fixed-income team, and later joined the multi-asset team in 2018. He is currently the joint-Portfolio Manager of M&G Balanced and Inflation Plus Funds. His role involves providing analytical and economic support to our multi-asset and fixed-interest investment process. He is also a member of the M&G Investments Asset Allocation Committee.
With 14 years’ industry experience, Sandile previously worked for Investec Asset Management as a fixed interest dealer and analyst. He also served as Portfolio Manager on large institutional fixed interest client mandates with liability immunization objectives.
Sandile holds a BSc in Mathematical Statistics and Actuarial Science and is a member of the Faculty of Actuaries.
Philip Rose

Phil was involved in founding Martello Asset Management in June 2019, as a director, in the role of Chief Investment Officer and manager of the Martello Global Equity Fund.
Prior to joining Martello, Phil was an Investment Director at Brooks Macdonald PLC with responsibility for equity research and selection. He was chairman of the International stocks team and the Bespoke Portfolio Service team.
Phil has more than 30 years’ experience in the offshore investment industry, specifically in research, equity selection, portfolio construction and management and portfolio analysis.
Phil holds the certificate in Private Client Investment Advice and Management (PCIAM) and is a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment.

Iain held various investment roles at RMBAM, including being a member of the Board of Directors as well as the Management Board while being a Senior Investment Professional in the equity team. After 16 years with RMBAM, Iain joined Truffle in May 2010.
Unathi Loos
Portfolio Manager
Unathi is a portfolio manager for the Ninety One Balanced and General Equity Strategy within the SA 4Factor team. She also has co-portfolio management responsibilities for the South African Resources Strategy. As sector head of Resources she is responsible for driving the research agenda within this sector with specific research responsibilities for a number of large cap mining companies. Unathi joined the firm from Investec’s Private Bank division, where she was an internal and external consultant covering credit applications and loan agreements since 2008.
Prior to joining Ninety One, she was a business director at Amperzand Advertising and an organisational development consultant at resources for African Innovations. Earlier in her career, she worked as an occupational therapist and also spent some time in a non-profit organisation.
Unathi has a Bachelor of Occupational Therapy degree from the University of Stellenbosch. She graduated cum laude from the University of Cape Town with a Master of Business Administration degree. Unathi is also a CFA® Charterholder.

Philip is a multiple-award winning fund manager with over 22 years’ experience in global asset allocation and fixed income. His role of Head of Investments at PortfolioMetrix includes managing both fixed-income and multi-asset class funds as well as being a key member of PortfolioMetrix’s global investment committee. Philip began his career at Investec in 1999, where he worked for 9 years in asset management, wealth advisory and as a bond and interest rate trader. From 2008 to 2014 he worked at Absa Wealth as Chief Investment Officer (CIO). Prior to joining PortfolioMetrix, he was the CIO at Sasfin Asset Managers, where he was the fund manager of the flagship Flexible Income and Balanced funds, which won two Morningstar awards and four Raging Bull awards. Fungai started his investment career in 2001. He worked for Fleming Asset Management as an intern, and later as an equity trader. Fungai later moved to African Banking Corp Asset Management in Zimbabwe assuming the role of senior portfolio manager. He then joined Imara Asset Management in 2005 as chief investment officer, where he was responsible for the overall investment function of the business. He worked for African Alliance from 2007 where he was responsible for the management of the West African assets of the Africa Fund. Fungai joined RMB Asset Management in 2008 as the Africa investment specialist and managed the group’s Africa funds for 6 years, building an impressive performance track record. He started Rudiarius Capital Management in February 2014.
Brandon Quinn

Brandon has been actively managing long-only and hedge fund assets since 2005. He graduated with a BCom (Economics) in 1992 and holds a CFA Charter since 2003. Brandon has experience investing in Developed Markets, Emerging and Frontier Markets across fixed income, currency, structured credit and equity asset classes.
Brandon’s financial services experience started in 1993 in market research within NBS Corporate Bank where he was responsible for sectoral research and strategy, informing the lending operations of the bank. It was over this period that Brandon completed an advanced diploma in bank credit management. Following the merger between NBS Bank and BoE Bank, he joined BoE Bank Treasury in 1996, where he focused on currency dealing and interest rate arbitrage.
From 2000 to 2003 Brandon managed the market risk of BoE Treasury, BoE Securities and the BoE Hedge Funds while completing his CFA. Following the merger between BoE Bank and Nedbank he was appointed Treasurer (Global) of Seaboard Overseas Limited (SOL), a NYSE listed multi-national commodity trading company. At SOL Brandon took overall responsibility for optimising the syndicated loan facilities and commodity hedging strategies using CBOT options and futures. In 2005 Brandon was appointed as a portfolio manager at Metropolitan Asset Managers, responsible for Liability Driven Investments of the Guaranteed Annuities products utilising nominal bonds, currency, and interest rate derivatives in multi-asset investment strategies. He managed a portfolio with AUM in excess of R7.0bn.
In 2012, Brandon was a founder of Saffron Wealth (Pty)Ltd, a hedge fund investment manager located in Stellenbosch from where it operates today. In 2013 Brandon won the Raging Bull Award for the best performing multi-asset income fund on a risk adjusted basis over 5years (The Saffron Met Opportunity Income Fund). In 2022 Saffron won the Raging Bull Award for the best straight performance of a multi-asset income fund over 3years (The Saffron BCI Active Bond Fund). The funds continue to be top performers in the Enhanced Income investment space. Saffron manages in excess of R2.3Bln in assets in the Saffron BCI Opportunity Income Fund, The Saffron BCI Active Bond Fund, The Saffron Flexible Fund and The Saffron SCI Qualified Investor Hedge Fund ONE.
David E. Levanson, CFA
David E. Levanson, CFA is a Research Analyst, a Sr. Portfolio Manager of the Sands Capital Global Growth strategy, and an Executive Managing Director. Sands Capital is an active, long-term investor in leading innovative businesses, globally.
Mr. Levanson was one of Sands Capital’s first staff members, working as a Research Analyst when the firm first opened in 1992. He left to pursue his MBA in 1994, then worked as a Research Analyst and Vice President at State Street Research & Management, and as a Research Analyst at MFS Investment Management. In 2002, Mr. Levanson returned to Sands Capital as a Research Analyst and later led the research efforts of the firm’s Global Industrials Sector Team. Mr. Levanson helped develop the firm’s Global Growth strategy, as has served as a co-Portfolio Manager since its inception in 2008. Mr. Levanson is also a member of the Executive Management Team, which provides strategic leadership across the firm.
Mr. Levanson earned a BSBA from the University of Florida (1990) and an MBA from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia (1996).
Melville Du Plessis
Melville has more than 15 years experience working in the investment management industry. He joined Sanlam Investments in 2011 as a portfolio manager within the active management business. Melville’s responsibilities have included portfolio management, research, trading, valuations, investment process management and development, as well as product development and execution. He is currently responsible for institutional and retail portfolios totalling roughly R50 billion.
Melville obtained a BComm (Institutional Investments) and BCommHons (Financial Risk Management) from Stellenbosch University, subsequently joining Novare Investments where he gained extensive experience working in the hedge fund industry and multi-asset environment. Melville is also qualified with an MSc (Finance) from the University of London in addition to being a CFA Charterholder, CAIA Charterholder and certified FRM.
Arno Lawrenz

With 30 years investment management experience, Arno has a deep institutional knowledge and network in South Africa’s financial markets. He has managed funds and portfolio management teams across a full range of mandates, from fixed income to global multi-asset funds, at some of the largest asset managers in the country. With a strong entrepreneurial mindset, he was founder and CIO of Atlantic Asset Management in 2007, providing a growth platform from which a range of funds and solutions were launched, before they were acquired by the FirstRand Group. Most recently, he served as Global Investment Strategist at Ashburton Investments, chairing the Global Macro Forum and with day-to-day responsibility of portfolio management of their Global Multi-Asset Fund range. He has an Honours degree in Mathematical Statistics and is a CFA charterholder. Outside of financial markets he also serves on the board of advisors in the biotechnology space.

Kingsley Williams is CIO of Satrix, the leading provider of index-tracking products in South Africa. Satrix is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Sanlam Group. As CIO, Kingsley heads up the Satrix investment team which has unrivalled experience in index-tracking portfolio management and solutions. Satrix has built up a formidable offering of vanilla, factor and balanced index products which are available in both retail and institutional markets across ETFs, unit trusts, life pools, segregated mandates and UCITS. Before joining Satrix in November 2017, Kingsley spent almost 10 years at Old Mutual Investment Group where he became the CIO of their indexation capability. He has vast experience in quantitative research, product development and index-tracking portfolio management, servicing South African and global institutional clients. Over his 20-year career Kingsley has also held positions at Stanlib Asset Management and Merrill Lynch, which included positions in London and New York. Kingsley holds an MBA in Finance from Wits Business School (with electives completed at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business), a BSc Honours degree (cum laude) in Computer Science as well as a BSc degree (cum laude) with a major in Mathematical Statistics. Tom Walker is Co-Head of Global Listed Real Assets at Schroders, and is responsible for the investment strategies of the SUTL Global Cities, Schroder ISF Global Cities, SUTL Global Cities Real Estate Income as well as three separately managed accounts.
Tom joined Schroders in 2014 and is based in London.
Tom was a Deputy Head of Global Listed Real Estate at AMP Capital from 2005 to 2014, which involved being responsible for investment, team management and client relationships. He was in the Valuation, Funds Management, Advisory departments at Jones Lang LaSalle from 1999 to 2005, located in both London and Sydney.

Evan started his career at Stanlib where he started out in the Wealth division representing teams such as Structured and Alternative Investments as well as Product Development. He soon moved on to Asset management as an analyst primarily focused on listed property; and then took on the role as co-Head of the Listed Property Franchise. During his tenure at Stanlib, the team grew the franchise to being the largest listed property manager in South Africa and achieved several number 1 performance rankings across 3 and 5 year investment periods.
Henk Viljoen

After gaining early experience in the treasury environment at Telkom and at Senbank, Henk joined Liberty Asset Management in 1990, and was appointed head of Fixed Income. Henk retained this role throughout the amalgamation with Standard Corporate and Merchant Bank that formed STANLIB. For many years he led STANLIB Fixed Income, a multi-award-winning team which built an undisputed reputation as the most astute and consistently successful Bonds/Fixed Income team in the South African industry.
Following the implementation of a succession plan over a period of three years, during which Henk retained executive responsibility as head of Fixed Income and chairman of the Interest Rate Committee (the key macro factor forum that determines the duration positioning of STANLIB’s fixed income mandates), Henk left the Fixed Income team in July 2019. In November 2019, Henk took up the roll of senior portfolio manager in the Balanced and Equity team.
Andrew Clifton

Andrew Clifton is a portfolio specialist in the Equity Division. Andrew’s investment experience began in 1990, and he has been with T. Rowe Price since 2010, beginning in the Investment Specialist Group. Prior to this, Andrew was employed by UBS as an executive director at Global Asset Management. Andrew also was a vice president at Merrill Lynch. Andrew earned a B.Sc. in economics from the London School of Economics and an M.Sc. in econometrics from the University of Southampton.

Patrice founded Visio Capital in June 2003. Patrice was previously the head of Corpcapital Bank’s hedge fund operation, where he managed the group’s hedge fund from January 2001 to May 2003. Prior to this Patrice was employed by Peregrine Capital as a director and fund manager, a position he held from mid-1998 until December 2000.
After completing his accounting articles, Patrice joined Mercantile Bank in 1995 and attained the position of senior manager of finance and administration, Retail Banking. Two years later he joined Liberty Asset Management (LIBAM) as a research analyst and assistant fund manager, until mid-1998.
Rowan Williams-Short

Rowan Williams-Short has 33 years of experience in investments. He was previously CIO at each of Prudential Portfolio Managers (South Africa), African Harvest Fund Managers and Nedgroup Investments (United Kingdom). Rowan has an MSc in Mathematical Statistics from the University of British Columbia and holds the CFA charter. He is a Fellow and a Governor of the South African Institute of Financial Markets and a CIPM certificant.
