Shane is an Executive Director and the CIO of All Weather Capital. After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant he began his investment career at Liberty Asset Management in 1995 as an investment analyst and progressed to be a Senior Fund Manager managing a Unit Trust, some third party pension funds and eventually the main life fund of the Liberty Group. Thereafter he spent 3 years as a Director of Corporate Finance at UBS Warburg before moving to Peregrine Capital as a Director. After 7 years at Peregrine Capital he started his own business now called All Weather Capital. Currently All Weather Capital has over R9bil in AUM and manages several different types of equity products ranging from Long Only Equity funds to Hedge Funds.
After several years in corporate finance, Henry joined the Anchor Capital investment team in 2015 as an equities analyst – contributing to both the local & offshore investment processes. He is a regular markets commentator on Classic FM’s “Classic Business” with Michael Avery, CNBC’s “Closing Bell” & BDTV’s “You and Your Money”.

Arno Lawrenz is a Global Investment Strategist at Ashburton Investments. He was co-founder, shareholder and Chief Investment Officer of Atlantic Asset Management. Arno has over 25 years’ investment experience and was previously Head of Fixed Interest at both Old Mutual Investment Group (SA) and at Coronation Fund Managers. He also has previous experience in product development, life company asset-liability management, FX-trading and quantitative modelling. Arno is known for innovation in the fixed income markets, most notably for the introduction of what has become known as flexible or enhanced income funds, as well as being amongst the pioneers in the use of credit in fixed income in South Africa, at a time when the corporate bond market barely existed.
Richard began his career in 1995 as an analyst for Old Mutual Asset Managers. He has extensive experience both locally and offshore, including co-managing the BigRock Fund for Decillion Capital. In 2001 he relocated to London with Decillion and co-managed a US/European hedge fund. Richard co-founded BlueAlpha in 2003, where his primary focus is global investing.

He worked for 4 years at Liberty Asset Management, firstly as an equity analyst and then as part of a four-member team responsible for managing R30bn in assets. At the age of 29 he set up Centaur Asset Management.
He has accumulated a wealth of knowledge from over 30 years of investment experience, and has been instrumental in developing Centaur Asset Management’s unique investment models, giving the company the ability to outperform the stock market.

Nathan Lacaze, CFA

Nathan Lacaze is Co-CEO of Dimensional Fund Advisors Ltd. (DFAL). In addition to his Co-CEO responsibilities, he is Head of EMEA Portfolio Management, a Director of DFAL, a member of DFAL’s investment and management committees and on the Board of Directors of Dimensional Funds PLC and Dimensional Funds II PLC (Irish UCITS managed by DFAL). In his role as Head of EMEA Portfolio Management, Nathan oversees the management of existing portfolios and helps design and implement new strategies. He also takes an active role with clients.
Nathan joined Dimensional as a trading assistant in 2004 and received a bachelor of chemical engineering and a bachelor of commerce, with majors in finance and economics, from the University of Sydney. He received an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and is a CFA® charterholder.
Rico Ernst holds a BCom in Investment Management and started his career as a Junior Portfolio Manager at Sasfin Frankel Pollak Securities in 2002. In 2005, he was actively involved in developing the Direct Share Option product for the company, and later promoted, sold and distributed this unique offering in the role of Financial Advisor. In 2007, Rico drew on his knowledge of asset management, share portfolios and advisory services to start up his own firm in partnership with Etienne Viljoen. Uhuru Asset Management (UAM) produced benchmark-beating results and created client relationships with a high level of contact and involvement; a fresh breeze in an often rigid, impersonal sector.

After graduating from UCT in 1991, Paul spent 5 years at Eskom in the engineering field then moved to the financial services industry, firstly working for Standard Corporate and Merchant Bank’s interest rate products unit, then joining the asset management industry in 1999. After 5 years at RMB Asset Management, Paul moved to the newly formed Momentum Alternative Investments where he managed numerous hedge funds and specialised segregated mandates. Paul joined Fairtree in 2013 and is responsible for managing the Proton Fund, as well as setting the overall philosophy and investment strategy for the multi-strat fixed income team.

Rademeyer started his career in 2004 at Liquid Capital Markets in London, UK, where as a quantitative analyst he was responsible for the pricing and risk management of listed derivatives. He progressed to the Quantitative Investment team at Liquid Capital Markets, where he was involved in the research and trading of quantitative investment models. Rademeyer subsequently set up Radian Consulting as a quantitative investment and derivatives risk management consultancy where he consulted on derivatives risk management at Barclays Capital, RBS Sempra Commodities, Lloyds Bank Corporate Markets and Dresdner Kleinwort Investment Bank. More recently, he was a founding partner, Head of Quantitative Research and fund manager of the Mansard CTA quantitative fund at Mansard Capital in London. Upon his return from the UK in 2012, Rademeyer joined Fairtree as quantitative fund manager and risk manager.

Hannes van den Berg
Hannes is a portfolio manager responsible for the SA Equity & Multi-Asset strategies in Investec Asset Management’s 4Factor team. His focus is on the General Equity and Balanced strategies and equity hedge funds.
Prior to joining the firm, Hannes was a portfolio manager at Fairtree Capital. He was also an analyst and head of the equities trading desk. Before that, he held various positions within the Sanlam Group, including being a founding member of MiWay Insurance and member of the Group Corporate Finance team. Hannes completed his articles at PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Ryan Friedman is the Head of Multi-Manager Investments. He is lead portfolio manager on the World Axis range of funds and a member of Investec’s Global Investment Strategy Group. He also chairs the Offshore Committee on global multi-manager investments. Ryan has nearly 20 years’ experience in financial markets, over 18 of which he spent doing due diligence on global fund managers.

Richard worked a senior investment professional at RMB Asset Management for 13 years between 1994 and 2007 where he was Chief Strategist, Head of Resources research, and a member of the Asset Allocation Committee. Garreth E. Elston

Garreth Elston is the Chief Investment Officer of Reitway Global’s suite of global listed property funds. He is an investment management professional with over twenty years of international capital markets’ experience in South Africa, North America, the United Kingdom and Europe.
Mr. Elston has a deep passion for real estate and has significant experience in listed and unlisted real estate investments, property development and real estate private equity.
Garreth has always been actively involved in the broader South African business community. He currently serves on the board of the Investment Analysts Society (IAS), is a member of the Institute of Directors, and he previously served as the Chair of the Corporate Finance and Corporate Presentations committees of the CFA Society Toronto; as the Chairman of the Investment Analysts Society of Southern Africa; and was the Southern African representative on the International Council of Investment Associations.

Vanessa van Vuuren
Portfolio Manager and Equity Analyst
Vanessa van Vuuren joined Sanlam Investment in 2007 as a portfolio manager and an equity analyst. She is responsible for cross-sector, small and mid cap equity research and manages the Small Cap Institutional Fund as well as the SIM Small Cap Unit Trust.
Van Vuuren began her career in 2003 at Oasis Asset Management as an equity analyst. Her primary focus was researching industrial stocks and the small cap sector. Thereafter she worked for the Dutch private bank, Insinger de Beaufort, conducting equity research and managing South African equity portfolios. She is a CFA charter holder and has two degrees from the University of Cape Town: a Bachelor of Commerce in Business Science and an Honours in Financial Analysis and Portfolio Management (FAPM).

After gaining early experience in the treasury environment at Telkom and at Senbank, Henk joined the then Liberty Asset Management in 1990, and was appointed head of Fixed Income.
Henk retained this role throughout the amalgamation with Standard Corporate and Merchant Bank that formed STANLIB, and for many years led a multi-award-winning team which built an undisputed reputation as the most astute and consistently successful Bonds/Fixed Income unit in the South African industry.
In 2008, Henk handed over responsibility for the day-to-day management of all third-party, life asset and retail bond funds. He retained executive responsibility as head of Fixed Income and chairman of the Interest Rate Committee – the key macro factor forum that determines the duration positioning of STANLIB’s fixed income mandates.

Patrice founded Visio Capital in June 2003. Patrice was previously the head of Corpcapital Bank’s hedge fund operation, where he managed the group’s hedge fund from January 2001 to May 2003. Prior to this Patrice was employed by Peregrine Capital as a director and fund manager, a position he held from mid-1998 until December 2000.
After completing his accounting articles, Patrice joined Mercantile Bank in 1995 and attained the position of senior manager of finance and administration, Retail Banking. Two years later he joined Liberty Asset Management (LIBAM) as a research analyst and assistant fund manager, until mid-1998.
