Cy is one of the co-founders and directors of 36ONE Asset Management and heads up the investment team. Cy has been in the industry for over 25 years. Before 36ONE, he was a portfolio manager at Investec Securities, where he was head of the Opportunities Mandate. Prior to that, Cy was a Director at HSBC, where he jointly managed the Nedbank Entrepreneur Fund. Cy completed his accounting articles at Kessel Feinstein (later acquired by Grant Thornton). He holds a BCom, BAcc and is a Chartered Accountant.

Jithen joined Allan Gray in 2013 as a CA trainee before joining the Investment team as an analyst. He was appointed as a portfolio manager in December 2023 and currently manages portions of the equity and domestic balanced mandates. Jithen is a director of Allan Gray Proprietary Limited. He holds a Bachelor of Business Science degree in Finance and Accounting and a Postgraduate Diploma in Accounting, both from the University of Cape Town. Jithen is a qualified Chartered Accountant (SA) and a CFA® charterholder.

After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant Shane began his investment career at Liberty Asset Management in 1995 as an Investment Analyst. He was later appointed Senior Fund Manager, responsible for managing a unit trust fund, third party pension funds and eventually the life fund of the Liberty Group. Following this, Shane spent three years as a Director of Corporate Finance at UBS Warburg before moving to Peregrine Capital as a Director. After seven years at Peregrine Capital he started All Weather Capital and has been at the company since 2014 and built up an AUM of over R10bil.

Peter is a CA (SA) and started his career in global financial markets in 1994. He has worked as an analyst, head of research and chief investment officer at a number of SA’s top financial institutions including Merrill Lynch, Deutsche Bank, Nedbank, and Investec Wealth & Investment. Peter has been rated the top investment analyst in the annual Financial Mail rankings a record 21 times and was also rated as the top analyst in SA by Finance Week in 1999. Peter founded the Anchor Group in January 2012 and has built it to a R100bn global investment management and wealth business serving over 15,000 clients. Maitse joined Argon Asset Management in December 2016 as part of our Graduate Trainee Programme as a Trainee Investment Analyst. Warren joined Bateleur during 2016 as an investment analyst. He has been working in the investment industry since 2006, most recently as head of investments at a private wealth firm. Richard began his career in 1995 as an analyst for Old Mutual Asset Managers. He has extensive experience both locally and offshore, including co-managing the BigRock Fund for Decillion Capital. In 2001 he relocated to London with Decillion and co-managed a US/European hedge fund. Richard co-founded BlueAlpha in 2004, where he manages the BlueAlpha BCI Global Equity Fund. He has won multiple awards – most recently, the Raging Bull for best 5 year risk-adjusted performance on the Select BCI Worldwide Flexible Fund.

Sidney Mckinnon is Head of Fixed Income at Cadiz Asset Management. His career spans more than 26 years in the investment industry having worked at asset managers such as Southern Life, Nedcor Investment Bank, Abvest and Lion of Africa before joining Warwick Wealth which then became Cadiz Asset Management. After a stint in IT, he fulfilled roles as a business analyst, Quantitative Analyst and Senior Portfolio Manager ultimately heading up the Fixed Income team at Cadiz Asset Management. Amongst numerous other achievements, he holds a B.Sc. degree form the University of Cape Town and a PGD in Financial Management from the University of Free State.

Simon joined Contrarius in March 2019. He has over 16 years’ previous investment experience with Allan Gray Ltd. From 2008-2018, Simon co-managed Allan Gray’s equity and balanced composites which included the largest equity and largest mutual fund in South Africa. Simon also co-launched and managed the Allan Gray Global Frontier Equity Fund. He has a BCom (Econometrics) and BCom (Honours) (Financial Analysis and Portfolio Management). Clarissa joined Fairtree in 2017 and is currently an equity portfolio manager. She started her career in 2000 as an audit clerk at KPMG to complete her articles. In 2004, she moved to Allan Gray as an equity analyst, and in 2011, she then joined Equity Sales at Citi. Clarissa holds a Bachelor of Business Science in Finance and a PDGA, both from the University of Cape Town. She is also a qualified Chartered Accountant and a CFA® charterholder.

Paul joined Fairtree in 2013 and is a fixed income portfolio manager. He started his career after graduating, where he worked in the engineering field at Eskom for five years. He then moved into the financial services industry, working for Standard Corporate and Merchant Bank’s Interest Rate Productions division for two years, and then joined the asset management industry in 1999. After five years at RMB Asset Management, Paul moved to the newly formed Momentum Alternative Investments, where he managed numerous hedge funds and specialised segregated mandates.

Chantelle joined Fairtree in 2017 and is currently the Head of SA Equity Research as well as co-portfolio manager for the Select Mandate and the Fairtree Blended Equity Fund. She started her career in 2006 when she joined Deloitte and completed her articles. She then joined Barclays Africa and worked in the Finance team, and then moved to the Equity Research team where she was a sell-side analyst covering South African Banks and General Financials. In 2016, she was rated #2 by the Financial Mail Ranking the analyst in General Financials and #6 in SA banks. Chantelle holds a Bachelor of Accounting Honours degree in Management Accounting from the University of Stellenbosch and is a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA).

Greville Ward has worked for 25 years in European Equity sales, first in London for Laurie Milbank and then Savory Milln (with Julian Robins) before moving to New York in 1988 to work for BZW. In 1992 he joined Robert Fleming as Head of European and Eastern European Sales where he worked for 5 years. He subsequently joined Bankers Trust until their takeover by Deutsche Bank in 1999 following which he started the US operations of Collins Stewart with Julian Robins working again with Terry Smith. Since leaving Collins Stewart in 2007 and before joining Fundsmith, Greville worked for a London based Intelligence company.

Anthony Ginsberg was born in Cape Town, South Africa and studied at the University of Cape Town, graduating with a Bachelor of Business Science (Honors). His Honors thesis was subsequently published as a book, by both Butterworths and the New York Institute of Finance, titled “International Tax Havens”. A second edition was released in 1998 sponsored by Barclays Bank. He qualified as a Certified Public Accountant in the US, after working for the Wall Street investment bank, Salomon Brothers (now Citibank). Thereafter he served as Barclays Bank’s, Director for Offshore Services with Global Executive Committee responsibility for the Caribbean, Southern Africa, Jersey, Guernsey and Isle of Man. Chulantha is a client portfolio manager at GQG Partners and has been at the firm since 2017. Prior to joining GQG Partners, he spent 10 years at Credit Suisse on the Asia Pacific Equities Research sales desk. Chulantha started his career at HSBC Securities and worked in New York and Asia. Then he joined Citigroup on the Asian Equities Research sales desks. He comes with more than 15 years of experience in international equities. Chulantha holds a BA in Economics from Washington College.

Paul joined Granate Asset Management in July 2019 as an Executive Director and Investment Professional. Paul manages the Granate BCI Balanced Fund and the Granate BCI Flexible Fund. Prior to joining Granate Paul was a portfolio manager at PSG Asset Management, where he was responsible for the PSG Stable and PSG Balanced Funds. Barry is the manager of the Investec BCI Dynamic Equity fund which he has managed since inception. He is passionate about sustainability and was instrumental in the creation of the Investec Global Sustainable Equity fund which he co-manages. He is also a member of the Investec group ESG Executive Committee. Barry Shamley started his career at Investec in 1996 before moving to Oryx Investment Management in 2006 where he co-managed its award winning flagship fund. He rejoined Investec in 2010. Barry obtained a B.A. from the University of Witwatersrand and a BComm (Hons) F.A.P.M. from the University of Cape Town. More recently he completed the CFA certificates in ESG, Climate & Investing and Impact Investing.

Melanie joined Laurium in December 2020. Prior to that she was a founding member of Tantalum Capital where she was Head of Fixed Interest and the portfolio manager for the fixed income portfolios. From 2002 to 2005 Melanie was at Coronation Fund Managers where she was head of the fixed interest team, managing fixed interest institutional and retail portfolios as well as the Strategic Income Fund. Melanie started her career in 1997 at Standard Corporate & Merchant Bank. Initially, she focused on interest rate and liquidity management before she moved to the Treasury Sales and Structuring Desk where she gained significant experience in structuring and marketing fixed income, credit and securitised products to institutional investors.

Ben joined Lindsell Train in 2019 and was promoted to Deputy Portfolio Manager in 2023. Ben has a degree in English Language and Literature from the University of Oxford.

Eva Sun-Wai became the lead manager on the Global Government Bond strategy and deputy manager on the Global Macro Bond strategy in January 2021. Since September 2019, Eva had been a junior macro fund manager in the Wholesale Fixed Income team, where her role involved implementing macroeconomic trade ideas in the Global Macro Bond and the Absolute Return Bond strategies. She joined M&G in 2018 on the Investment Graduate Scheme, rotating across several business areas including emerging market debt, corporate credit research, real estate and long-term investment strategy. Before joining M&G, she worked on passive products and ETF strategies at State Street Global Advisors. Eva has a BSc (Hons) Economics degree from the University of Birmingham, has obtained the IMC and Financial Services Level 6 qualifications and is a CFA charter holder.

Gary was involved in founding Martello Asset Management in June 2019 as a director and in the role of Investment Director. His work across the business spans investment process, security & fund research, implementation of investment strategies across portfolios and the management of Martello’s client relationships. JP, a Bachelor of Commerce graduate and Chartered Financial Analyst has over 20 years of experience in financial markets. He spent 12 years in London working as a Bond Trader and Fixed Income hedge fund manager before returning to South Africa in 2009. In South Africa JP was deputy head of fixed income at Prescient Investment Management and more recently at Laurium Capital where he was head of fixed income. He is head of fixed income at Methodical managing the various income and bond products within the group.

Omri has 24 years of investment experience. Omri joined Abax in 2007 as an investment manager. Prior to joining Abax, Omri was the Chief Investment Officer at Sanlam Investment Management, were he worked from 2003 to 2007. Paul is a portfolio manager within the Global Rates team at Ninety One, with 30 years of industry experience. He manages the Ninety One Reserve Management strategies and the Ninety One Liquidity funds, and co-manages the Global Diversified Income fund. Paul started his finance career in 1994, working in institutional banking. Several years later, he moved into the asset management industry, working for a highly successful institutional fixed-income team. During Paul's early career, he managed execution trading across developed and emerging market fixed-income and currency strategies. In 2006, Paul became a portfolio manager responsible for multi-currency fixed-income portfolios and co-managed a highly successful leveraged currency fund.

Adrian joined the asset management industry in 1995 and has acted in the capacity of analyst, portfolio manager, CIO, board member and CEO over his career. After 13 years of successfully managing the top performing PSG Balanced fund as well as being the CEO of PSG Asset Management, he reluctantly decided to resign in late 2012 as a rare opportunity arose to acquire Northstar Asset Management. Philip is a multiple-award winning fund manager with over 20 years’ experience in global asset allocation and fixed income. Philip began his career at Investec in 1999, where he worked for 9 years in asset management, wealth advisory and as a bond and interest rate trader. Lars Hagenbuch BBusSc (Actuarial Science), FFA, CFA, CAIA Product Specialist, RisCura Solutions (USA); Director, RisCura Solutions (UK) Lars has over 25 years’ experience in a range of investment fields including asset consulting, hedge funds, tactical asset allocation and portfolio management. He has on-the-ground experience in both emerging markets as well as in the UK and USA. Brandon has been actively managing long-only and hedge fund assets since 2005. He graduated with a BCom (Economics) in 1992 and holds a CFA Charter since 2003. Brandon has experience investing in Developed Markets, Emerging and Frontier Markets across fixed income, currency, structured credit and equity asset classes. Brandon’s financial services experience started in 1993 in market research within NBS Corporate Bank where he was responsible for sectoral research and strategy, informing the lending operations of the bank. It was over this period that Brandon completed an advanced diploma in bank credit management. Following the merger between NBS Bank and BoE Bank, he joined BoE Bank Treasury in 1996, where he focused on currency dealing and interest rate arbitrage. From 2000 to 2003 Brandon managed the market risk of BoE Treasury, BoE Securities and the BoE Hedge Funds while completing his CFA. Following the merger between BoE Bank and Nedbank he was appointed Treasurer (Global) of Seaboard Overseas Limited (SOL), a NYSE listed multi-national commodity trading company. At SOL Brandon took overall responsibility for optimising the syndicated loan facilities and commodity hedging strategies using CBOT options and futures. In 2005 Brandon was appointed as a portfolio manager at Metropolitan Asset Managers, responsible for Liability Driven Investments of the Guaranteed Annuities products utilising nominal bonds, currency, and interest rate derivatives in multi-asset investment strategies. He managed a portfolio with AUM in excess of R7.0bn. In 2012, Brandon was a founder of Saffron Wealth (Pty)Ltd, a hedge fund investment manager located in Stellenbosch from where it operates today. In 2013 Brandon won the Raging Bull Award for the best performing multi-asset income fund on a risk adjusted basis over 5years (The Saffron Met Opportunity Income Fund). In 2022 Saffron won the Raging Bull Award for the best straight performance of a multi-asset income fund over 3years (The Saffron BCI Active Bond Fund). Daniel Pilling is a Sr. Research Analyst at Sands Capital, where he primarily covers semiconductor and software businesses. Prior to joining Sands Capital in 2018, Daniel was most recently an analyst at Balyasny Asset Management and at Millennium Capital Partners. Daniel earned an MPhil from Cambridge University and a BA from Manchester Business School.

Arno has been in investment management since approximately 1991 and has deep institutional knowledge and a vast network in South Africa’s financial markets. He has managed funds and portfolio management teams across a full range of mandates, from fixed income to global multi-asset funds, at some of the largest asset managers in the country. With a strong entrepreneurial mindset, he was founder and CIO of Atlantic Asset Management in 2007, providing a growth platform from which a range of funds and solutions were launched, before they were acquired by the FirstRand Group. Most recently, he served as Global Investment Strategist at Ashburton Investments, chairing the Global Macro Forum and with day-to-day responsibility of portfolio management of their Global Multi-Asset Fund range. Arno has an Honours degree in Mathematical Statistics and is a CFA charterholder. Outside of financial markets he also serves on the board of advisors in the biotechnology space.

Evan is a co-founder and executive director of Sesfikile Capital. He holds a BCom Hons (Financial Management) degree from the University of Johannesburg and Chartered Financial Analyst (“CFA”) designation. Evan started his career at Stanlib where he started out in the Wealth division representing teams such as Structured and Alternative Investments as well as Product Development. He soon moved on to Asset management as an analyst primarily focused on listed property; and then took on the role as co-Head of the Listed Property Franchise. During his tenure at Stanlib, the team grew the franchise to being the largest listed property manager in South Africa and achieved several number 1 performance rankings across 3 and 5 year investment periods.

Andrew Clifton is a portfolio specialist in the Equity Division. Andrew’s investment experience began in 1990, and he has been with T. Rowe Price since 2010, beginning in the Investment Specialist Group. Prior to this, Andrew was employed by UBS as an executive director at Global Asset Management. Andrew also was a vice president at Merrill Lynch. Andrew earned a B.Sc. in economics from the London School of Economics and an M.Sc. in econometrics from the University of Southampton.

Craig joined Visio in April 2012. He is head of product and business development. Prior to joining the team, Craig worked at Alvine Capital (London, UK) for five years focused on hedge fund investing. He fulfilled the role of portfolio manager and analyst investing in hedge funds, both globally and across investment strategies. He was also responsible for managing fund of fund portfolios and reporting to client investment committees. At the time he advised European institutions at CEO and CIO level on fund allocations at a global level. Before he moved into asset management, Craig spent eight years consulting in the USA, UK and South Africa in both the healthcare sector (at ESPH) and commodity sector (at Integer Research) on strategy and business development.

Jonathan has 28 years of fixed income experience. Prior to joining Visio, he served as Head of Fixed Interest at Granate Asset Management. Jonathan also served as the Head of the Fixed Interest team at Cadiz Asset Management, where he managed the Unconstrained, House View and Inflation-Linked Bond funds. As part of his experience Jonathan has 11 years of sell-side experience having worked as a Fixed Interest Strategist at HSBC and RMB. He holds a MSocSci (Econ.) degree from UCT.

Safs completed his articles in 1999 at Deloitte, Cape Town, focusing on financial services companies. He spent some time in Dubai with KPMG focusing on banking and insurance sectors within the Middle East. In 2000 he joined Ernst & Young with his key clients being asset management and insurance companies. In 2001 he joined Metropolitan where he held various senior management positions. He joined Metropolitan Asset Managers in 2005 where he held various positions including Product Development, Analyst and Portfolio Manager. Safs was appointed to the VFM Board in January 2023.
